Exploring Cricut - Celebrating Veterans!

We are celebrating Veteran's Day at Exploring Cricut and hoe you join us. The challenge is to create a card, layout or craft with a patriotic theme for Veteran's Day. You must use the Cricut for your project and no back linking. You have until Saturday, the 10th, to enter your project.

I decided to create a card for my project and found these great cuts on a variety of cartridges. For the flag, I welded the stars in my Gypsy to a flag and just love how it turned out. I heat embossed the sentiment with red powder. I edged the mat in brown ink and used Stickles for her bows, sash and flag.

Dancing Mouse

Hi Everyone! How are you all this evening? This is going to be a busy weekend around our house as we begin the first weekend of Nutcracker season. My oldest is knee deep in rehearsals and this cute little mouse reminded me of the story. It is only fitting that she have a tutu on as well. I am entering her into a few challenges. The first is for the sketch, which  is from the Peachy Keen Sketch Challenge #66.The second one is Bitten By The Bug 2 for the mouse and Fantabulous Cricut Challenge #88 for a holiday card.

Guest Designer for Exploring Cricut

Hi Everyone! I am so excited to be a guest designer at Exploring Cricut today. Thank you so much Diane for inviting me! I am busy working on Thanksgiving items and have been wanting to try a banner for sometime. I needed to dress my mantle for Thanksgiving and thought this would be perfect.  I used quite a few carts to get this one done.

I used papers from 2 DCWV stacks; Autumn Splendor and Harvest Gathering.  The papers have glitter, foil and a nice shene to them. I started with laying the design out on my Gypsy. I cut the base from Twinkle Toes at a height of 7.39". The letters were from the cartridge Gypsy Font cut at 4.08".  I used the layer feature as well so that the letters would have the nice flourish behind them. The rosettes were made with the Martha Stewart Elegant Cake Art cut at 1.5" with a width of 12". I used 2 of these together to make sure that the diameter would be big enough behind the letter. I also cut a circle at 2.23" in height for the rosette.

The acorns were cut using Create A Critter at 7.15". The leaves were cut at 3" using Doodlecharms. I used Argyle and Paisley embossing folders from Cuttlebug.

The tulle was a great buy at Joann Fabrics; 25 yards for about $2.99 even less expensive with a 40% coupon. It is a rich chocolate brown.

To make the rosettes I used my Martha Stewart scoreboard. I scored them at 1/4" all the way down. I did use two 1.5" x 12" borders together to get the dimension I wanted. I used 3M glue them to put the 2 pieces together, but hot glue was used to attach the circle to them. The tricky part of rosettes is scrunching and holding to get the hot glue and circle secure. There are quite a few videos out on youtube that show great tutorials on exactly how to make them. The nice thing when making your own is being able to customize what you want the strip to look like. I wanted to have a decorative edge so I chose one with a scallop and hole punch. I think they are all so pretty; even the plain edge.

Musical Cats

Well, I finally did a layout with Fantabulous Cricut as my inspiration! The challenge this week was to do something musical. Boy, do I have a lot of that to do for my older daughter's book. Before I know it, there will be another performance and more to do:) These pictures were taken this summer so I'm not too far behind. We made her cat costume. I have to say the tail, for me, was the most fun. I used 5 different colors of tulle and the base was a nylon hose stuffed with polyester fiberfil.  They were cut in strips, 2 pieces sewn together and when pulled on the ends created a puff ball that was then sewn to the base. Her tail inspired a lot of the other girls too so they also created tails to match their costumes. It was too hot this day, but other peformances she wore one of her legwarmers on one leg. I sewed yarn to just to give some dimension to it.

This particular layout was for the "Cats" Musical song Jellicle Cats

The wheel paper was inspired because the cats live in a junkyard. I drew with the cri-kit pens in
black before cutting out.

This cat is also singing and the black cri-kit glitter pen was used on this one too.

This particular number was the opening act for "Music Man" so the backdrop had some
fun colors that we decided to pull onto the layout.

Back To School

I received my order from Emma at My Creative Time and was able to sit down and play with the gift card holder. I think this is a great idea that will get a lot of good use around my house. It was very simple to do and came together quite quickly. Her stamps are really nice too. This little girl is so cute. I cut her from Twinkle Toes. I hid the face cuts on my gypsy and used Peachy Keen Stamps instead. I glittered her up a bit too:)
